For days I’ve been overcome. Though I grieve for the nation, I’m not overcome with grief for no one can grieve as a family grieves and though angry, I’m not overcome with rage for my sorrow is too great to allow this.  By saying I’m overcome I only mean that the strength of Christian witness and the willingness to forgive that which is in the eyes of all but the most merciful is unforgivable has been greater than I can imagine.   I hear “love your enemies” and “pray for those who persecute you” and think Mother Emanuel, I am overcome and you are stronger than I.
